First, instruct your teenage child to clean the house. When they do not immediately do so (notice I said “when,” and not “if”), take a grapefruit, cut it in half, and return to your teenage child.

Tell the child that you told them to clean the house. When they ignore you or give you “the look,” take away their cell phone for a few days.

When they give you the “I can’t believe you are taking away my cell phone” look and line, at the point when their eyes are bulging out the most, hold up the grapefruit and squeeze juice into their eyes.

You will have their attention at that point and they will do whatever you tell them to do… and it only took half a grapefruit!
